To school your child at home, to "be in charge" of their day-to-day learning environment, several things have to be front and center in your point of view. One of the biggest: Life is messy. Always. Your goal is NOT to continually tidy up behind life but to keep your eyes open for the shiny/tasty bits that scatter from the inevitable mess. Pick up those bits, treasure them, and ponder why you've been gifted thus.
Another biggie to bear in mind: Learning happens whenever it happens, and not necessarily on schedule.
The above necessaries have as a prerequisite one of two things (or, in most cases, both): being (a) Super Duper Spiritual or (b) Pretty Damned Insane. Take your pick. Either way, your mind's on its way out the door.
For all those folks who write me on occasion to query about my homeschooling "methods" -- this fabulous video montage of one experiment is for you.

(Note the science related discussions about why one teabag would work better than another. Just to make sure this doesn't look like all-play-and-no-work...)
